Winter 2016 Open House
Mana Contemporary invites you to celebrate our new winter programming at our quarterly Open House.
The event is free and open to all ages.
New exhibitions include:
Made in California: Selections from the Frederick R. Weisman Art Foundation, covering two floors of gallery space, presents a star-studded selection of contemporary West Coast art from the 1950s to the present. In the first floor gallery, The T’ang Horse: Anthony Quinn, curated by Ysabel Pinyol, offers an intimate look at the late actor’s legacy through the lens of his own art works and art collection. The ICP gallery on Mana’s sixth floor presents Sudden Impact: Photography on the Printed Page, presents an international selection of early 20th century magazine covers, prints, and posters, illustrating that period's energizing and urbane shift towards image-heavy media. The Florence Academy of Art at Mana presents Scandinavian Artists of The Florence Academy of Art, a select group of figurative paintings by their Scandinavian alumni, including work from current students and instructors from their Swedish location.
Ongoing exhibitions include:
Ayn Foundation continues its year-long solo exhibition, Ayn Foundation Presents: Arnulf Rainer, in a 5,000-square-foot gallery on the first floor. The Austrian artist (b. 1929) is considered one of the most inventive abstract painters of the 20th century. In the fifth floor gallery, curator Saul Ostrow presents Here’s Looking Back at You: Images of Woman from the ESKFF Collection, a selection of works from the Eileen S. Kaminsky Family Foundation (ESKFF) that examine the boundaries of understanding female representation in art. On the first floor, Galerie Ernst Hilger presents Oliver Dorfer & Cameron Platter: Far Relations, featuring two artists from opposite ends of the globe whose work addresses deep-seated political and historical themes with pop culture imagery.
A complimentary shuttle service will depart every half hour from Milk Studios (450 West 15th Street, New York, NY 10011) starting at 12:30PM, with the last bus leaving Milk at 4PM. Returning buses are every half hour from Mana from 2PM to 7PM.
