Aaron Dunkel uses paint, photography, found objects, and other materials to create art that encapsulates the excitement and dissonance he sees in the world. His work draws from classical American art history, aboriginal drawings, pulp science fiction book covers, and contemporary art. “There is never a pause button,” he writes. “No matter if it’s photography, filmmaking, or painting, I have always been in awe of the art of image making.” Dunkel attended Pratt Institute and graduated with a dual major BFA in photography and filmmaking. After graduation, he worked in post-production on broadcast commercials, eventually becoming a senior editor and working with several major advertising agencies. Using all of the experience gained through the years, he returned to his roots in painting and photography. His work can be frequently seen at several galleries in Downtown Jersey City.
