Mana BSMT Cinema Cantina:
John Turturro’s Mac (1992)

Please join us for a free screening of Mac, John Turturro’s freshman outing as writer/director, introduced by Stanley Sudol, Director of Mana Urban Arts Project. A loose homage to Turturro’s father, Mac is a perfect artist’s film because the hand of its maker is so fully and soulfully present.

Refreshments served. Audience discussion to follow.

Mac is a blue-collar, Italian-American family drama set in the 1950s. The working class, first-generation immigrant children claim their slice of the American pie by doing what their parents did—but in the American way. Personal intensity, youthful anger, and an all-consuming desire to succeed sends the tight-knit family out into a world that tests their unity. Turturro sketches a compelling narrative around the immigrant work ethic and waning craftsman's' pride.
