Hirofumi Maeshiba

Artist Hirofumi Maeshiba was born in the Wakayama prefecture of Japan. He studied sculpture at Kyushu Sangyo University, where he mastered the art of woodcarving, iron welding, stone carving, and statuary. After traveling throughout Europe, he was encouraged to visit New York City, where he met and later assisted stone sculptor Minoru Niizuma. Today, he focuses on his own work, which consists of slim, jointed structures as well as drawings and paintings.
