Born in Washington DC, New York-based artist Kate Gilmore works in installation, video, and performance. She received her BA from Bates College and an MFA from the School of Visual Arts. Using self-imposed restrictions and challenging objectives, she imposes her own physicality in post-feminist critiques of sex and gender. Her work is part of the permanent collections of the Whitney Museum of American Art, Museum of Modern Art, Brooklyn Museum, San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, and the Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago, among others. She is represented by David Castillo Gallery in Miami, FL.
