Social Belonging: Little Men
DIRECTOR: IRA SACHS
2016 | 90 min
After an individual’s physiological and safety needs are fulfilled, the third level of needs, as identified by Maslow, are social belonging and love. Especially strong in childhood, these needs are often expressed via relationships with family members, friends, and other intimate connections. Lack of such interactions, relationships, and a sense of usually results in feelings of loneliness and depression, while an abundance of them sustains people through difficult times. Little Men follows Jake and Tony, two boys seemingly very different on the surface, as they develop a formative kinship and discover the pleasures of being young in Brooklyn, and the challenges their friendship faces as a result of the conflicts between their parents.
Little Men is part of Mana Film Series.
Part One of the series presents five films, each corresponding with one of the needs as established by psychologist Abraham Maslow.
