Mana Open Mic

Offering a safe space in which to dance, sing, celebrate, and create, Mana Mic is an event organized and hosted by Rashad Wright, Jersey City's Poet Laureate. It includes a writing/performance workshop, an open mic session, and two featured artists of national acclaim, Simple N’Clean S.N.C. and ChyKonic Speaks, with accompaniment from After School Orchestra.

Participation in the open mic and workshop is first come, first served. A sign-up sheet for the open mic will be available from 7PM. Please email with any questions.

New Jersey City University graduate Rashad Wright is the Poet Laureate of Jersey City and the only two-time Grandslam Champion of Jersey City Slam. His practice also incorporates fiction and memoir, as well as acting, music, and performance art.

Simple N’Clean (S.N.C.) is a Jersey City-born rapper, poet, and short story writer with a degree in English and Creative Writing from Montclair State University.

ChyKonic Speaks is a New Jersey-born poet and a graduate student at Montclair State University. She is a cofounder, co-curator, and host of D.A.M.N.

The After School Orchestra practices the art of rediscovering music through live collaboration, borrowing from jazz philosophy, folk structure, and improvised poetry.
