Huston, Ken

If it were necessary to apply a label to Ken Huston’s work, perhaps it lies at the intersection of minimalism and conceptualism. All of Huston’s work involves the process of distillation to synthesize multiple levels of meaning. The artist believes in the thought process as a continuous movement, and art created is a manifestation of that movement. Although uniquely varied, each piece relates to its predecessors. Huston sees the evolution of his work as fragments moving along a straight line.
Ken Huston earned his BFA in photography from the Maryland Institute College of Art, and his MFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Most of the artist’s energy has been devoted to sculpture, using a variety of materials—found, crafted, or fabricated. Recently, Huston has been exploring text-based concepts, including embossed etchings.
