Luca Molnar

Luca Molnar (b. 1991, Budapest) lives and works in Jersey City, New Jersey. Molnar paints fractured space, deriving compositions from maps, both real and imagined, and juxtaposing patterns to mirror societal structures. She is also interested in the function of pattern within domestic space, making reference to embroidery, quilts and other textiles, wallpaper, and decorative tiling. Her paintings make a case for the political nature of the decorative.

Molnar earned her BA in studio art from Dartmouth College and her MFA from NYU. She has held teaching appointments at Dartmouth College, NYU, and the Governor’s School of North Carolina.
