Stefania Strouza

Stefania Strouza was born in Greece in 1982 and works in Athens and Vienna. She received a masters degree from the School of Architecture of Athens and an MFA from the Edinburgh College of Art and the department of Textual Sculpture, Academy of Fine Arts, Vienna, and is currently supported by the Austrian Cultural Forum New York City. Strouza’s sculptural practice explores cultural paradigms such as Mediterranean modernism, employing environmental metaphors including water currents to examine the cross-cultural syncretisms that emerge from the exchange of meaning and goods across vast distances. Her work has been exhibited at the Thessaloniki Biennale of Contemporary Art; Bauhaus Foundation, Dessau; Wiener Art Foundation, Vienna; Neue Galerie Innsbruck; Athens & Epidaurus Festival; BOZAR, Brussels; and National Museum of Contemporary Art, Athens. She has undertaken residencies at the Bauhaus Foundation Dessau; Seeger Center for Hellenic Studies, Princeton University; and in Mexico City with the support of the Austrian Federal Chancellery.
